This course meets all the outcome measures for the moving & handling component of the Social Care Induction Standards. All delegates are expected to actively participate in the equipment demonstrations to confirm competence and increase empathy with the client group.

Course content

A wide range of subjects is covered including: -
  • Find out just how common moving & handling injuries are
  • Understand the basic structure and function of the spine
  • List the important legal requirements in relation to moving people and objects
  • List the causes of back pain
  • State the basic principles of ergonomics
  • Demonstrate the principles of safe moving and handling
  • Demonstrate the use of relevant moving and handling equipment
  • Know how to carry out a risk assessment
  • Identify unsafe moving & handling practices Identify your own safety lifting limits
  • Explore the problems associated with team handling
  • Find solutions for your moving & handling problems

Course Duration

This course is delivered over a full day at our training facility in Lincoln, at your organisations premises or at a convenient location for you.

Assessment and certification

Candidates are continuously assessed by the tutor throughout the course and awarded with a certificate of attendance which is valid for 3 years.
